About this group
SmileForMe was started on the 1st of January 2018. It is an Irish Mental Health campaign. We use the power of a smile to promote the importance of positive mental health by taking photographs of people smiling and asking them to share their own thoughts/experiences/opinions on mental health. SmileForMe is a platform for people to speak openly with confidence to remove the stigma attached to mental health.
We now educate students and GAA players by doing presentations/workshops on mental health.
Reasons to support this group
SmileForMe is a community and a family that grows every single day. It is very unique in how it educates and gets people talking about mental health. The simplicity of the campaign is what makes it so effective and with more funds and support, we will have the opportunity to expand the campaign.
We now provide workshops and mental health presentations to people around Ireland, particularly young people. This is a vital part of SmileforMe as early intervention is key.
Each year we have a huge outdoor music festival with bands from all across the country. We raise funds for much needed charities who rely on public donations to keep running. SingForMe is a very important event and will hopefully become an annual event in Cavan and various other counties across Ireland.
Last year we raised over €3000 euro for Sosad Cavan.
After the death of our friend Danny in New York last year, this year's charity we have chosen is the Kevin Bell Repatriation Trust.
We are the only campaign in Ireland like us. Social media is receiving such a negative name at the moment, particularly among young people. We are using social media in a positive way and changing people's negative opinions positive.
For the first time, people are able to talk openly and share their stories with thousands of others and be supported and understood without judgement.
