About this group
Northside Youth Work Service provides youth work programmes for young people living in the Northside of Limerick City. Our mission is to provide opportunities for young people to reach their full potential, to have access to a safe and welcoming environment and build positive relationships.
The types of programmes young people have access to include bereavement groups and creative therapies; youth clubs; personal development programmes; LGBTI+ supports; educational programmes and much more.
Reasons to support this group
We target children who have the potential to achieve academically. Education is key to breaking the cycle of poverty and with additional supports we are creating opportunities for children and young people to realise their full potential.
The project is run on a shoestring centering around the skills of the youth work team, third level volunteers and any small pockets of money raised locally. A small cash sum makes a significant difference to the quality of the service.
Young Person has a significant talent for art. We provided different activities from sowing to printmaking. She successfully earns her place in the Limerick School of Art and Design. On her first day she makes it to the entrance and is frozen with fear. She never takes her place. We work to ensure young people see 3rd level as a right should they choose it. We break down the barriers by running projects in the colleges and matching young people with students who come from similar backgrounds.
