How this works

About this group

Founded in 1970 Newport Town AFC has gone from humble beginnings to a modern club with top-class playing facilities and currently has a playing membership of almost 400. The club fields teams from U6 to Adults with participation in three leagues in Limerick & North Tipperary. We cater for boys & girls and are a club firmly entrenched within our local community & beyond. We hope that our newly-built multi-purpose clubhouse will become a focal point for youth & community groups. The small rural town of Newport saw a major population explosion during the boom, with it becoming a popular commuter town to Limerick City. However the local services available to young people in the area didn't keep up with the population growth. Our club sees itself as very important for the mental & physical well-being of young people in the area and we're firmly focused in being a valuable outlet for youth inclusion through the playing of team sport. Any funds raised will assist us in this.

Reasons to support this group

  • Football belongs to and should be enjoyed by everyone, equally. Our club’s commitment and message to our players, supporters and their families is to confront and eliminate discrimination whether by reason of sex, sexual orientation, race, nationality, ethnic origin, colour, religion or disability.
  • Our club is not only developing footballers we are developing people. All players are constantly reminded that when representing their club and themselves they do it with the utmost respect, treating opponents, referees and spectators as they would wish to be treated themselves.
  • In this age of physical inactivity amonst young people and the continued growth in childhood obesity, our club welcomes young people to get active and healthy by playing football.
